I wanted to determine the miles we put on the trailer since we bought our MacGregor 26M in January of 2013, so I created a list of all the trips and miles we have traveled. This will help make sure we keep up the trailer maintenance schedule. The previous owner did not have a trailer for the boat, so we bought a new dual axle aluminum trailer before we picked up the boat. Our ACE trailer tows great, and other than one flat tire, we have had many trouble-free miles.
After adding up all our trips, we have road cruised our boat and trailer a total of 3,748 miles. If we add in the trips from our previous boat, the MacGregor 25, we have gone 5,488 miles. I have never kept a boat log of our trips. One of my new year’s resolutions is to start keeping a log this year. As I added up the road miles, I decided to calculate the water miles too. This was not as easy as the road miles, as I could not use miles calculation like on an online road map. I used my Garmin BlueChart Mobile application on the iPad to chart my memories of where we went on each trip to get an approximate mileage. The water totals are 392 miles in the 26M, 193 miles in the Mac 25; a total of 585 miles. We have a grand total of 6,073 road and water miles! The Florida map below shows all the places we have sailed over the last five years marked in red. It seemed like we covered a lot of the coastline, but from the looks of the map, it would take us at least another ten years to cruise the rest of Florida! Sounds like a good challenge to accomplish before we buy the bigger boat and sail over the horizon.
