We woke up in the Black Point Settlement anchorage dreaming of Coconut bread french toast. We soon learned it wasn’t a dream and it was fantastic! It was also a beautiful morning to enjoy breakfast al fresco in the cockpit. I could get used to waking up to this life everyday.
After breakfast, we headed back ashore to see more of the island. We took a short hike to windward side. The rocks were very sharp so it was a bit of a challenge in flip flops, but we took our time and the views of the waves crashing on the rocky coastline were worth it.
As we stood at a high point on the cliffs, we spotted a blowhole down the coast so we decided to go check it out. Jon decided that this would be a good opportunity to freshen up after our hike and provided one of the best laughs of our trip.
Our other mission for the day was to track down some Bird Peppers as Jen was planning to make some conch salad after our planned conch diving at the next island. We stopped by one of the island stores and asked the owner where we could get some bird peppers. He responsed, “how do you know about bird peppers?” It appears that the bahamians like to keep the secret ingredient of their amazing conch salad a secret. He then called out the back door to a neighbor who showed up with a plastic bottle full of a special conch salad sauce. She warned us to use it sparingly as it was very hot. The cost, free of charge. She was happy to share with us as she appreciated our interest in their culture and local cuisine.
Up next, our review of a place that will make you look forward to doing your laundry.
