We just booked flights to Staniel Cay, Bahamas, to meet up with some great friends that are cruising on their sailboat through the Exumas. We are very excited about the trip. This will be our first sailing experience outside coastal Florida waters and we are looking forward to cruising the beautiful blue green waters of the Bahamas. We plan to someday take our boat over to the Bahamas for a trip, but it is unlikely that we would have time to get much further than Bimini or Grand Bahama Island. I have heard that you can spend years sailing the Bahamas and not see everything. Many sailors that have circumnavigated the globe say that the Bahamas are one of the top cruising grounds they experienced, and it definitely has some of the most beautiful water you will every see. The flights from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Staniel Cay are expensive, but when we considered that we will be cruising for free on a beautiful sailboat for five days, it is a great deal. As a primer, we remembered to read this great article on being a good boat guest by Jody at the Where the Coconuts Grow website.
Staniel Cay is also famous for the Bahamian swimming pigs! I am sure we will stop by to visit them and make our donation to their voracious appetites.
Thank you to the Staniel Cay Yacht Club for permission to use a couple of their great photos. We look forward to stopping by to check out their great marina and resort. Check out their site and give them a Like on Facebook. Their waterfront bungalows look amazing!

It looks like it’s going to be an amazing trip and, don’t worry, boaters always make the best guests!
Thanks, I agree, most boaters understand how to live in small spaces, but we also need to realize it is not our boat and we need to adapt to the owners way of organizing and running the boat.
